The Catholic Jesus
  • Tired of people telling you that Jesus was a good man but nothing more?
  • That the Church has exaggerated who Jesus is for the sake of its own power?
  • That Bible-believing Christians don't really need the Church anyway?

This readable summary of the latest biblical scholarship will help you to hold your own.

Mary gave birth to a boy, not a book. Jesus never wrote a word, because he was God's Word. It is only through the Church which Jesus founded that God breathed the words of the Bible, and so it is only through the Church that we can really come to learn who Jesus is.

Ideal for Confirmation classes and Lent courses, this book will especially help Catholic, Anglican and Orthodox Christians to learn more about the Church's claims for Jesus.

"The Catholic Jesus is superb. Fr Tom clearly shows the relationship of church and Scripture not simply as a chronological priority but as determining our interpretative method now. He ends with a wonderful meditation on the Eucharist as the place where the church is most itself. Jesus - Scripture - Church - Eucharist. This is an excellent curriculum of the Christian faith.

"Most important of all, however, is the way in which the book fulfils its claim to be describing a catholic Jesus. Jesus is not calling individuals to participate individually in salvation, but individuals are called to become more than themselves by participation in the divine life which is incorporation into the church. This book could be given to any intelligent late teenager or adult." - Fr Richard Peers SMMS, Liverpool Diocese Director of Education

"The Catholic Jesus is an excellent short study of the Christian tradition through the lens of the early Church. In this engaging work, Father Thomas Plant gives his readers the keys to understanding the fundamental mysteries of the Church. He does this by tackling—robustly and with great intellectual vigour—the pernicious distortions of modernist reductionism with a view to rehabilitating a faithful defence of an authentic Christian vision. Unreservedly recommended" - Rev John Paraskevopoulos, Buddhist Hongwanji Mission to Australia
