Old people in the group told stories about a scary bear that lived in the cave. They said there was no other bear in the woods like this one. It was bigger and stranger at the same time. The adults tell these stories to keep the kids safe, not to scare them. They thought that the kids would stay away from the cave if they knew how dangerous it was.
When the tribe's kids came, they linked the cave to magic and danger. Even though they were told to stay away from it, some of them were even more eager to look at it. The adults' words were meant to keep the kids safe, but they also made them.
