Overview

Written as a guide to the U.N. Charter for practicing lawyers as well as scholars, this Commentary is a unique piece of scholarship, the product of impeccable research by an internationally recognized group of experts. Originally published to wide acclaim in German, the Commentary provides an article-by-article account of the legislative history, interpretation, and practical application of each Charter provision, and is the first commentary in any language to take into account the complete workings of the U.N. The English translation has been fully revised and updated since the appearance of the German edition, with most of the articles updated to November 1993. One of the most significant collaborative projects ever undertaken in the field of international law, this is the first Commentary on the U.N. Charter to be published since 1969 and the only one in any language to take into account its practice and procedure. At once scholarly, authoritative, and immensely practical, this single volume will make a significant impact on the ways in which the U.N. Charter is discussed and understood.
