Overview

The Church, Marriage, and the Family is a collection of studies mostly written from the point of view of Catholic teaching dealing primarily with marriage and the family, as the title indicates; but the book also ranges into such related topics as feminism, homosexuality, and even pornography. The contributions include William E. May, "The Good of Spouses and Marriage As a Vocation to Holiness"; his-torian Allan Carlson, "The Future of Marriage and the Family in the United States: Some History Lessons," and social scientist Nicholas Eberstadt, "The Global War against Little Girls."

Among the more than two dozen contributions are: "John Paul II and the Complementarity of Man and Woman," by John F. Crosby of the Franciscan University of Steubenville, "Catholic Marriage and Feminism" by Sister Mary Prudence Allen, R.S.M., of Denver's St. John Vianney Theological Seminary, and "Pro-Family Prospects in Congress," from Rep. Christopher H. Smith (R-N.J.). Finally, the book contains a section entitled "In Memoriam: Rev. Msgr. George A. Kelly, 1916-2004.'" Msgr. Kelly was the founder of the Fellowship of Catholic Scholars. Included here are a number of tributes to him written by friends and collaborators of his in the work of the Fellowship. They include: Gerard V. Bradley, James Hitchcock, William E. May, Ralph McInerny, Patrick G.D. Riley, Rev. Msgr. William B. Smith, Kenneth D. Whitehead, and Rev. Msgr. Michael J. Wrenn.
