The fate of Prometheus rests in the hands of Richard Mariner, the tanker's new captain. It is his responsibility to battle human treachery and the dangers of the open sea to bring Prometheus to safe harbor. From the Persian Gulf to the storm-tossed Atlantic, Mariner and his crew will struggle against the elements while trying to uncover the elusive-and cunning-enemy in their midst.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly - Publisher's Weekly

A web of plots involving a supertanker, its crew and cargo, a beautiful woman and the inclement sea commands full interest in this first novel. (Aug.)

School Library Journal

YA-- Richard Mariner has no idea of the challenges he will face when he decides to resume his active sea career as a substitute captain on Prometheus . With his experience, though, it isn't long before he realizes that something is awry on the supposedly newly refurbished ship owned by the Greek tycoon Kostas Demetrios. Fortunately for Mariner, he has some able seamen among his crew as he initially tries to deliver his oil cargo to its intended buyer and ultimately struggles to bring a sabotaged ship and crew to safety. An engrossing work with plot and character intertwinings that help make it an enjoyable read.-- Diane Goheen, Topeka West High School, KS
