Dr. Thornton's father fought in World War II as a Navy seaman, second class. By age twenty-seven he had five children to raise--all girls, and no boys. Donald's daughter, Dr. Yvonne S. Thornton, is a double-Board certified Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist and Clinical Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Thornton lives with her husband in New Jersey. Jo Coudert is also a playwright and lives in Califon, New Jersey.
