About the Author

Paul Owens is the author of 1999's best-selling book, The Dog Whisperer: A Compassionate Nonviolent Approach to Dog Training now in an updated 2nd Edition, (2007), The Puppy Whisperer (2007) and The Dog Whisperer Presents Good Habits for Great Dogs. He is featured on his dog training DVDs, The Dog Whisperer: Beginning and Intermediate Dog Training for Puppies and Dogs, and the new Dog Whisperer: Solving Common Behavior Problems for Puppies and Dogs. Paul is often referred to as the "original" Dog Whisperer because his first book and DVD were released prior to those of others who now use that phrase. His specialty is in the evaluation and behavior modification of aggressive dogs and he is frequently consulted and referred by veterinarians. Jeff Probst, Host of Survivor, says Paul is "hands down the best dog trainer I've ever worked with! His dog training DVD captures all of his professionalism and expertise in an effective and easy-to-follow format." Paul's philosophy: "I believe nonviolence fosters nonviolence. Because of the link between dog and human behavior, nonviolent dog training contributes to helping build a world of peace for humans and dogs."

What People are Saying About This

Jack Canfield

Jack Canfield, Co-author, Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul and Chicken Soup for the Soul

This is an important book. Paul Owens offers a powerful voice of nonviolence and a truly enlightening approach to raising and training your dog. I wholeheartedly recommend his message of compassion and joy.

Michael Fox

From the Foreword by Dr. Michael W. Fox, Senior Scholar, Biothics, The Humane Society of The United States, Washington, D.C.

This wonderful book will help break the cycle of animal suffering caused by wrong-mindedness and harmful training methods. [The nonviolent process] helps us develop our empathy and understanding, making us more humane-and more human-and thus more deserving of the company of dogs whose virtues we so often fail to live up to.

Bob Barker

Bob Barker, Host, The Price Is Right

After working for years to expose trainers' cruelty to animals in the production of movies, I applaud a book that encourages the compassion and nonviolence that dogs so richly deserve.
