Overview

The pianist George Shearing grew up in Great Britain, immersed himself in jazz, moved to the USA in 1947 (becoming a citizen in '56), and established himself as a popular pianist with his tasteful melding of swing, bebop, and classical. For Shearing fans in particular, EARLY YEARS is a cache of riches--this five-disc set presents Shearing's recordings from his pre-American years, including his days with British swing and dance bands (some including Al Bowlly, the British Bing Crosby) and some fine collaborations with jazz violin legend Stephane Grappelli.
