The End... As We Know It, Book 1: Chronicles of Jack, Part 1
As Jack weaved in and out of the slower traffic, he saw that many cars were pulling off onto the breakdown lane, so that the vehicle's occupants could get out and get a really good look at the Cloud as it engulfed the Earth in its warm colored glow. As Jack found the thinning traffic, easier to maneuver through, he saw that the break down lane was now clogged with vehicles of all sizes as well as the people that had been in them.

Jack was tempted to take a moment out of their trip to the hospital and pull over too, but a moan from Jenny encouraged Jack to drive on even faster. He had the car up to seventy and was thinking about slowing down so that he could more easily dodge the vehicles pulling over when out of nowhere, something crashed in to the highway right in front of them.

Jack swerved around the smoking mass just as RJ let out an ear splitting scream! "Look at the sky!" She screamed! "Oh my God, look at the sky!"

Jack had slammed on the brakes after barely avoiding whatever it was that had crashed into the highway, leaving a good five foot wide hole in the center of the three lane north bound interstate highway. Jack looked up and what he saw made his blood run cold. He would never know it, but at that moment, he had pissed his pants out of shear fright. It looked like the entire sky was full of meteorites or something, all of them falling to the Earth in a blaze of glory.

Jack gulped and slammed his foot down on the accelerator pedal. The car jumped forward just as another of the meteorites slammed into the spot they had just left in the far left lane. To Jack's horror a truck just to their right careened out of control as a meteorite smashed into the cab. It went into the break down lane, running over several people before crashing into the back of a van. A huge explosion followed, taking out another vehicle and several more bystanders.
