Description: This is a summary of most of the important aspects of the functioning of the normal endometrium. It represents a significant change from the first edition published in 2003, containing updated molecular, cellular, and clinical data. The authors do an excellent job of integrating the newer data into this second edition.
Purpose: The book addresses the new technologies in the laboratory and the clinic that have led to a better understanding of the endometrium and its impact on human reproduction and women's heath.
Audience: It is written for students, researchers, clinicians and reproductive biologists interested in the reproductive physiology and pathology of the endometrium as well as reproductive function. The authors are outstanding authorities in their field.
Features: The book covers endometrial development, pathologic conditions, and the molecular changes associated with all of these states. It also covers changes that occur for and as the result of pregnancy. It is exceedingly complete in the description of the functioning of the normal endometrium. It could describe better the development of abnormal endometrium, especially as it relates to malignant change. In general, though, this book is complete and comprehensive and can serve as an excellent reference on the endometrium.
Assessment: This will be useful as a text for students and reproductive biologists to get a general understanding of the endometrium and its functioning. It can serve as an excellent reference for everyone wanting to learn something about the endometrium and can be a reference point for a variety of topics concerning the endometrium. It is the most comprehensive accumulation of data in book form regarding the endometrium assembled to date.
