This book consists of some 1,100 pages covering the diseases of the horse. It has two authors and 76 qualified contributors. The book is arranged in 20 sections and is well indexed. Each section has been organized by a consultant editor, and the first pages of each section list the contents. The purpose of the manual is ^^to serve as a ready handbook for veterinary practitioners who attend horses.^^ It attempts to be a comprehensive and yet concise text. Besides its intended audience of practitioners, the book may also be of value to students and graduate students. Each section has its own table of contents, which helps in finding material. There are only limited sources for outcomes of treatments and to complications associated with case management, etc. The absence of illustrations detracts from many of the sections. Similarly, the reader is not given other reading sources, references, or any ideas as to the origin of the thoughts and diagnostic plans. The authors have made a valiant attempt at producing one book that covers all for diseases of the horses. I believe that the size of the task has overwhelmed the resources available and would suggest dividing the book into two volumes in any future editions.
