Overview

This book is about how the actions of a man propelled the destiny of the Roman civilization. Through the force of his personality, courage, and convictions, he, along with the support of his family and friends, was able to steer Rome on its path to dominating the known world. Although the characters and events of this novel are fiction, the historical background surrounding them is based upon the writings of the Roman historian Titus Livius in his work " From the Founding of the City and the Greek biographer Plutarch and his most famous work, Parallel Lives, "The Life of Camillus."
History comes alive through the people who have lived it, no matter how ancient. Unfolding history through the lives of fictional characters is the primary aspiration of this book.

About the Author

About Julian Di Donato
I was born June 25, 1953, in Pelham, NY. A small town just north of NYC. I have a younger brother Salvatore and two sisters, Gena and Diane. I attended Saint Catherine's parochial school until the eighth grade, where I then enrolled at Salesian High School in New Rochelle, NY. Upon graduation, I obtained my bachelor's degree at Fordham University in Bronx, NY, and went on for my master's degree in marketing at Iona University.

I was lucky to grow up in a loving middle-class family with a hard-working father and a dedicated mother with many aunts, uncles, and cousins. I was very fortunate to meet the love of my life, Marrietta Cutrone, at 16 years of age, and we married right out of college. Forty-seven years later, after raising four beautiful children in the cozy, neighboring town of Eastchester, we are closer and more in love than ever.

I used my business education throughout my forty-year career in my own retail business and later in the restaurant industry, first as Retail Director and Merchandiser for the Harley-Davidson Cafe and later for the Tao Group in NYC.

Once I retired, I realized how I enjoyed public speaking and telling stories to entertain people. However, the pandemic in 2020 changed everything, and my focus naturally turned to write.

As empty nesters, we spent some time in Rye Brook, NY, before moving to Texas City, Texas. After three enjoyable years outside of Houston, Texas, we pulled stakes again to follow our oldest daughter back to the northeast. I enjoy living by the shore, boating, fishing, swimming, and writing in Milford, Connecticut.

"The Etruscan Tribune" was sparked by my interest in exploring our past and how it affects how we live today, along with my desire to make that history come alive through storytelling. Many of the characters in my books are drawn from the people in my life or based on historical figures. The stories I tell are fictional, but the references and events reflect real-life people and events.
