Novelist Lauren Grodstein’s exploration of God’s existence is compelling and thought provoking. Andy Waite experiences a dilemma when he falls for one of his students and that very student, Melissa, proposes researching the possibility of a scientific basis for creationism. Narrator Rick Adamson shines in his depiction of this novel’s characters: Andy, who is grieving over the loss of his late wife; her orphaned children; and a cast of characters representing the entire spectrum of believers, from atheism to fanaticism. Adamson deftly contrasts Andy’s Darwinian conviction and his grief over losing his one true love. This thought-provoking and emotionally satisfying novel is rendered even more so by Adamson.
