Overview

THE FLYING SAUCERS ARE REAL is one of the earliest non-fiction works to examine the growing UFO phenomena of the 1940s and early 1950s. Author Donald Keyhoe sets out to convince an oft skeptical public of the reality of flying saucers, their extraterrestrial origins, and the U.S. Government's role in covering up the truth. Among the many ideas Keyhoe promulgated was the clandestine adaptation of salvaged alien technology by the U.S. Government.

About the Author

Donald Edward Keyhoe (1897-1988) was an American writer and UFO researcher. Born in Iowa, Keyhoe became a military aviator after finishing college; however he retired in the early 1920s following an accident on Guam. He then turned to writing after managing Charles Lindbergh's wildly popular coast-to-coast tour in 1927; his work proved popular, earning Keyhoe a respectable living. In the early 1950s Keyhoe became interested in UFOs, founding the National Investigations Committee On Aerial Phenomena (NICAP), a private organization which attempted to press the government for fuller disclosure of UFO phenomena.
