A is for Akpakpa, B is for Baa... Ga is the beautiful, poetic language that lent the word kwashiokor to global medical vocabulary. Working alongside Peruvian illustrator Avril Filomeno, renowned Ghanaian novelist and poet, Nii Ayikwei Parkes has created a playful universe in which the pictures tell a story as you learn the letters of the Ga alphabet.

Simple and fun, this one-of-a-kind book gives children the basics needed to master this musical language of West Africa.

About the Author

Avril Filomeno Núñez is a visual artist and designer who specialises in children's illustration. She has illustrated stories and comics professionally for almost 20 years, and her work has been published in magazines, stories and textbooks in Peru, Bolivia and Brazil.

Raised in Cape Coast and Accra, in Ghana, Nii Ayikwei Parkes grew up hearing stories from his parents, his blind grandmother, orange-sellers, teachers and a rag-bag of friends with whom he ran wild. Many years later, in London, he was asked to visit a library and tell stories and found himself kneeling in front of twenty six-year-olds retelling an Ananse story. For over two decades since then, he has worked in hundreds of schools in the UK, Zimbabwe, Switzerland, US, and at home in Ghana. His other work for children is published under the name K.P. Kojo.

The Ga Picture Alphabet is the first collaboration between Avril and Nii Ayikwei, who were briefly housemates in Lima, Peru.
