Overview

The year is 2043 and Brice Taylor and Kevin Tang are best friends and sophomores in high school. That friendship is put to a major test when a mysterious antique Nikon camera sucks them both into a vortex that swirls with time travel, the kidnapping of a beautiful girl, drug dealers, and a struggle to survive in a whole new world. The adventure begins when Kevin discovers undeveloped 35-millimeter film in a camera purchased by Brice as a prop for a Halloween costume. Kevin insists on having the film developed and is struck by the beauty of the girl whose picture is on the film. Brice remains completely uninterested until the camera seems to take on a life of its own by revealing in a series of new images on the film that the girl has been kidnapped. Brice's desire to rescue her immerses the pair in a plot that takes them 30 years into the past and halfway across the country. They face packs of wild dogs, hunger, sleepless nights, kidnappers, and drug dealers while trying to find the mysterious girl before it is too late.

About the Author

My writing career began as a sports writer for the Shreveport (Louisiana) TIMES. That position allowed me the opportunity to develop a feature writing position for the newspaper's weekly magazine. In that position, I had the opportunity to travel regionally and statewide to interview and write about the people of Louisiana. I also developed a series of first-person features in which I posed as a circus roustabout, a department store Santa Claus, and a walk-on at a Dallas Cowboys tryout camp. For the past 25 years, I have written and grammar and worked as an instruction coach training educators. I am married with six grown children and four grandchildren. My wife and I enjoy traveling to places that are hot and humid where other than scuba diving we do as little as possible.
The concept behind the storyline for The Girl in the Nikon Camera began when I found a roll of undeveloped film in the pocket of a sports coat at a local Goodwill Thrift Store. I asked my wife, "What if...?" Unlike the protagonists in this novel, I found no magic camera and no mysterious images on the film. It was blank. I participated in the National Novel Writing Month project (NANOWRIMO) and wrote the first draft of this novel in 30 days -- well, actually 28. My peak writing day was a little over 11,000 words
