The Girl who wasn't Good Enough

At sixteen Lynda Collins is a good-looking, resilient, rebellious young woman with plenty of dreams and ambitions, but no money.
All Lynda wants is a better life, and to be loved, but two possessive older women become her enemies when she falls in love with their sons. Wealthy Ellen Heywood and snobbish Sheila Stanworth seem determined to take away Lynda’s chances of happiness, and then to take away her daughter.
Lynda makes mistakes, like we all do, but she works hard to make a success of her marriage, and to be a good mother. She even gives up her dreams – but not for ever.
All Lynda wants is to be happy, even though she knows she’s married the wrong man.

The Lynda Collins Trilogy is a passionate, warm-hearted and intriguing love story and family saga, set mainly in the North of England between 1961 and 1997.
Lynda Collins is a woman who deserves to be loved. But she's also a woman who makes mistakes. The three novels tell the story of her life from being a hard-up teenager in the 1960s, to becoming a successful, wealthy, self-made business woman in the 1990s.
They also tell of her difficult relationship with her daughter, and of the secrets and power struggles within two families.

About the Author

When people ask me where it all comes from, this writing, I tell them I have this special software - it's called 'my imagination'. There's reality and experience in the background though; for example, when I was young we lived in a run-down pub not unlike The Black Bull. I first started writing when I was a young Mum with two small children. I entered a novel writing competition in a magazine - I didn't win, but it taught me to type! My characters do most of the writing for me, they become voices in my head and take on a life of their own. They're no angels, and they get into the sort of relationship situations which fascinate me. They make me care about them; they make me cry, and they make me laugh. I hope they'll do the same for you. 'Liz's Drama Press Reviews' '...dry and kindly observation ...with real passion.' The Guardian '... a good ear and understanding.' The Sunday Times '...with sharp characterisation....and a density of emotion...compelling entertainment.' The Stage '...a strong and realistic play.' The Times '... a dryly comic play....' Northern Star 'An entertaining play... and a Dahl-like twist' The Independent on Sunday '...poignant depiction of budding friendships... could be appreciated by anyone' Theater Forum (USA) ' ..best ... driven by urgent concerns with real people.'
