A sheriff and two of his deputies were killed in a shootout when they attempted to arrest two brothers who were wanted for evading the draft in 1918. Also involved in the shootout were the brothers� father and another friend and accomplice.
They led posses on an arduous chase through difficult, mountainous terrain for almost a month.
