About the Author

Thomas Cleary holds a PhD in East Asian Languages and Civilizations from Harvard University and a JD from the University of California, Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law. He is the translator of over fifty volumes of Buddhist, Taoist, Confucian, and Islamic texts from Sanskrit, Chinese, Japanese, Pali, and Arabic.

The translator of traditional Chinese and Japanese wisdom, as well as a popular writer who applies these ancient ideas to contemporary business management, Cleary here gives brief quotations from Confucius, Taoism, The Book of Change , and Sun-tzu, followed by his own meditative commentary. Each quotation plus commentary is usually one page or less in length, making the book good for browsing.
