Chamberlain, the minister and medical doctor with the Reformed Church in America, looks back on nearly 50 years of fruitful ministry with evident satisfaction that the work produced many converts to Christianity and churches in a land where the cost of Christian commitment is very high, producing several stories illustrative of some who succeeded in turning over a new leaf and and others who failed. Most of Chamberlain's missionary endeavors on behalf of the Telugu people were based at Madanapalle, where he helped to build a hospital, churches, schools, and other facilities representative of Christ's kingdom in India. The Rev. Jacob Chamberlain (1835-1908) was a trained medical doctor as well as seminarian and thus uniquely equipped for missionary work in India, where he spent more than 40 years as a missionary doctor of the Reformed Church of America.
