Bliss has designed knits for more than 40 years, weathering a variety of ups and downs in a changing industry. Though she has published numerous pattern books, this one marks her entry into the knitting reference realm. A solid knitting reference covers all aspects of the craft in a clear, comprehensive manner, with ample illustrations, sensible organization, and a thorough index to help knitters track down the information they need at a glance, and Bliss's book is more than successful on all three fronts. Topics covered include both standard and decorative methods for casting on and binding off; stitch formation, including English, continental, and left-handed variations; specialized techniques such as knitting in the round, Aran knitting, lace knitting, colorwork, and embellishment; and design, fitting, pattern-reading, and troubleshooting basics.
