About the Author

L. Frank Baum, in full Lyman Frank Baum, (born May 15, 1856, Chittenango, New York, U.S.—died May 6, 1919, Hollywood, California),

An American writer known for his series of books for children about the imaginary 'Land Of Oz.' He wrote 14 book in the Oz Series. Baum began his career as a journalist, initially in Aberdeen, South Dakota, and then in Chicago.
In 1900, Baum introduced readers to a fantastical land of fantasy where good versus evil, in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The story of Dorothy's quest to find her way home, accompanied by the Tin Woodsman, the Scarecrow and the Cowardly Lion, proved to be very popular. Baum wrote that his intention in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was written solely to pleasure children today. It aspires to being a modernized fairy tale, in which the wonderment and joy are retained and the heart-aches and nightmare are left out."
