Overview

Koalas are tree-dwelling marsupials that are native to Australia. They are supposed to be Australia's national treasure but today, that is not the case. These beautiful animals are dying at a rapid rate due to natural and on a higher scale, man-made factors. The situation is so devastating that koalas are predicted to no longer be in the wild by 2050. This book catapults us to the year 2050 and revolves around koala carer, Renee and the few koalas she tends to. 2050 brings us a world where the koala population has greatly dwindled. The few living koalas can only be found in sanctuaries.
Renee details what it is like taking care of the koalas and talks about their habits. The situation they are in presents a bleak future for the koalas. The future only gets bleaker when the last koala in the wild is brought in, hurt and dying.

About the Author

Hi, my name is Melody Barnao, the author of 'The Last Koala'.
I have been involved in conservation projects and also as a volunteer in tree-planting for wildlife in Australia for the past several years. In that time, I have gained some insight and knowledge about the animals who live and depend on our trees for survival, in particular the koala species. Unfortunately, life has dealt them a heavy blow of late and it has come to my urgent attention that we need to create more awareness to help with their continued survival in the wild.
My short-story is a prediction to a very bleak future for our little furry friends if we don't act now.
Here's hoping with education, public awareness and a human change of thinking, that we can stop this prophetic future from coming true!
