Overview

Dr John Watson continues the chronicles of his friend Sherlock Holmes with a series of memoirs which give us further insight into the enigmatic Master Detective.

In "The Yellow Face" we see Holmes, by his own adimission, drawing the wrong conclusion from this moving and unique case. There is a touch of the macabre in "The Resident Patient" and a touch of the comic in "Silver Blaze" one of Conan Doyle's most intriguing twists.

The collection ends with Watson in sombre mood as he recounts the final encounter between Holmes and his ultimate foe Professor Moriaty.

Simon Hester narrates with a compelling style a real sense of the period, and also provides original music for this exciting Head Stories production.

Editorial Reviews

Michael Dirda

The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes not only features the great detective's earliest known cases, it also introduces his older and smarter brother Mycroft and brings us face to face with that Napoleon of Crime, the chilling Professor Moriarty. This is, in short, the volume through which Conan Doyle dramatically enlarges the Holmesian universe—and just one reason why any serious Sherlockian will want a copy of these stories in this handsome Edinburgh edition, superbly introduced and crisply annotated by Jonathan Cranfield.

Times (London)

Sherlock Holmes is the very foundation stone of the edifice that is crime fiction.”

From the Publisher

He is unique in simultaneously bringing down the curtain on an era and raising one on another, ushering in a genre of writing that... has never been surpassed. His own life, as footballer... eye surgeon, champion of injustice and investigator into the paranormal, is the stuff of legend. Personally, I would walk a mile in tight boots to read his letters to the milkman—Stephen Fry, The Arthur Conan Doyle Collection
