About the Author

Dr. O.P. Mathur, formerly Professor and Head of the Department of English, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi (India), is widely known in academic circles. His book the closet Drama of the Romantic Revival, published from Salzburg (Austria), was favourably reviewed in various Indian and foreign journals including the Indian Book chronicle, Osmania Journal of English studies, The Year’s Work in English Studies, The Byron Journal and Choice. The work was also referred to by Professor G. Wilson Knight in his Byron and Shakespeare and by Professor M.K. Naik in his a History of Indian English Literature. Professor Mathur has, in addition, published a large number of articles, reviews and interviews in Indian, British, American and Australian journals. His present area of interest is Indian English literature in which he has completed two major research projects financed by the University Grants Commission. His book on Sri Aurobindo is under print and another on Indian English fiction is under preparation. Professor Mathur has participated in a large number of conferences and seminars in India and abroad and was invited to deliver lectures in a number of Universities and Colleges. He has also been the General Secretary of the Indian Association for English Studies and is currently its Vice-chairman.
