Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly - Publisher's Weekly

This top-notch collaboration between the staff of OWL magazine and the Dinosaur Project, a team of Chinese and Canadian scientists, offers concise, perky answers to 100 questions about the dinosaur age. The issues raised range from fanciful (``Were baby dinosaurs cute?'') to factual (``Were dinosaurs warm-blooded or cold-blooded?''). Dinosaur devotees and converts alike can rest assured that the book contains the latest findings on this complex subject. The brevity and simplicity of the answers make this a good bet for reluctant readers--as does the fact that the volume presents much of its information through intriguing photos and copious illustrations featuring various art styles. Also appealing are the addition of such diversions as pictures to be matched with descriptions and a multiple-choice quiz that determine if the reader is a ``dino-buff.'' Ages 8-up. (Sept.)

School Library Journal

Gr 4-6-- First published in Canada, this book presents new information to U. S . audiences. Funston queried hundreds of children to determine what questions they wanted answered. But the questions, and their answers, here, have an added twist. This team of paleontologists, called the Dinosaur Project, works on digs in the Alberta Badlands. They also worked with Chinese scientists digging up bones in the Gobi Desert, and have been digging up dinosaurs in the Arctic. It's a refreshing change to see a picture of worldwide expeditions, rather than focusing on findings in the United States. The information has been livened up with quizzes and a conglomeration of full-color photos, drawings, and paintings. A glossary of Latin and Greek words will help readers untangle the meaning of dinosaur names. Overall, this is a good title for browsing and brushing up on dinotrivia.-- Cathryn A.
