About the Author

Thomas Meagher (1823-1867) was an Irish Nationalist who found his way to the United States after escaping a death sentence for sedition in the U.K. He Studied law, worked as a Journalist and rose to the rank of Brigadier General in the American Civil War. He was acting Governor of Montana when he drowned after falling from a steamboat.
