Overview

The No-Limit Hold'em Workbook: Exploiting Regulars is primarily designed for semi-professional and professional online poker players who are looking to make the move from lower and middle stakes to the bigger games.

Building on ideas first introduced in Let There Be Range (co-authored by Nguyen and Cole South), the Workbook begins by outlining a number of important concepts the understanding of which tends to distinguish "regulars" at these games from those who are able to exploit them. Such concepts include the understanding of hand ranges when assessing opponents' play (and recognizing one's own tendencies); the importance of aggression and learning to be the "pouncer" (that is, the player able to identify and pounce on others' weaknesses); balancing one's play; overbetting; playing small pocket pairs; and river play.

Then comes the "exam" -- 35 "problems" in which these concepts are made concrete. In these problems, Nguyen guides the reader through a series of $3/$6 six-handed no-limit hold'em hands, ably exploring and explaining the many decisions and alternative lines one can take. Taken together with the earlier theoretical discussions, these problems do much more than describe specific circumstances and identify so-called "correct" plays. Rather, The No-Limit Hold'em Workbook: Exploiting Regulars instructs readers how best to think about no-limit hold'em, thereby arming them with multiple, highly-effective tools for dominating the online game.

About the Author

Highly successful online poker professional Tri ‘SlowHabit’ Nguyen turned his loves of poker and education into a notable coaching career, drawing praise for his ability to explain complex poker concepts in simple, easy to understand terms. These skills transitioned well into writing and he soon found himself teamed up with fellow online star Cole South — a collaboration that resulted in the high-level no limit Hold’em breakthrough, Let There be Range.

Nguyen is also the author of The No Limit Holdem Workbook: Exploiting Regulars. Additionally, Nguyen has written extensively on Omaha and his The Pot-Limit Omaha Book: Transitioning from NLHE to PLO is frequently prescribed to Hold’em players looking to crush small- and mid-stakes PLO. The sequel, Advanced PLO Play, is for PLO specialists looking to increase their edge against other PLO regulars.

A graduate in computer science and education from UC-Berkeley, Nguyen is a regular strategy column contributor to Card Player magazine and a prolific blogger at dailyvariance.com.
