About the Author

Eissa Albinali is a 12th grader at Whitney High School, who is fervently passionate about the study of biology and medicine.

His passion for medicine was ignited by his grandmother, who is an esteemed pediatrician in the Socal area. Over the summer, Eissa would visit his grandmother’s clinic where he would volunteer and immerse himself in the community. Throughout this time, he witnessed a great disparity in the access to healthy food in well-off compared to low-income communities. This issue inspired the writing of “The Not So Special Fish.”

Later, he started volunteering at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center as a pre-op teen volunteer and eventually got invited to join the Teen Advisory Board at the hospital, where he currently serves. He also currently works as a research assistant at a computational biology lab at Caltech.

Eissa has long been interested in writing a book to share his ideas and decided that delving into the domain of children’s picture book writing would fit his passions well. “The Not So Special Fish,” is his first work. The book tells the story of a young timid fish who discovers how to better himself and achieve his goals through the means of biology. It discusses simple concepts in biology and nutrition and presents them in a fun and easy-to-understand way.

Thank you for taking the time to understand my story and passions. I sincerely hope you enjoy the book.
