Back in 1914, Tom Beal signs up to fight in WW1, along with his best friends from school. But the trenches prove unforgiving as young dreams and lives are shattered, culminating in the Battle of the Somme in 1916. As Simon researches what happened to his distant relative for a History project, he unearths the story of the old whistle and the fate of its owner.
