The Peddler's Wife, Vol. 1, In the Hill Country of Georgia, is based on the true story of one family's struggle to persevere and adhere to their moral compass through hardships and the everyday trials and challenges of life on the heels of the Civil War in the southeastern United States. Handicapped with a deformed leg, the teenaged peddler on foot is fortunate in finding a benefactor and the love of his life with the daughter of this chance acquaintance in his travels. The couple raise a large family as the twentieth century begins and they move from town to town to expand his sales territory and meet the family needs and whims of his loving, but somewhat high-spirited wife.

About the Author

Teresa Radford Brooks, a transplant from Virginia to the deep South in 1957, is the eldest of a large family herself and thereby gained a vast knowledge of the human condition and the psychology of family life early on. Growing up in Appalachia without modern conveniences enabled her to understand the drudgery and rewards of manual labor as it related to the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. This experience and an administrative career enabled her to intimately understand human nature and breathe life into this unusual family story.
