Editorial Reviews

MAY 2022 - AudioFile

Fans of Pooh may not be aware that his author had an entire, and successful, career outside the Pooh universe. Cheerfully narrated by Matthew Lloyd Davies, this audiobook includes some of the articles Milne wrote for PUNCH, the British magazine of humor. There is not much writing advice here, except by example, but there is a good deal of witty commentary on British life in the first quarter of the twentieth century. Davies’s narration is warm and conversational, as it should be, with flashes of befuddlement and enthusiasm, and the subjects range from the biography of a cricket to the proper appreciation of thermometers. This may not be classic material, but it is certainly enjoyable, and it’s interesting to hear a sample of Milne’s other work. D.M.H. © AudioFile 2022, Portland, Maine
