Western icon Andrew J. Guidall perfectly conveys the Confederate sense of honor and justice personified in Johnny. The focus of the novel, which takes place after the Civil War, is Johnny's journal. As Johnny wanders home from the war, Guidall brings to life the various characters he encounters along the way—thieves, sisters and mothers, saloon girls and owners.
