THE RED MOVEMENT is a global movement of propelled action forward never seen before in history to end all forms of modern-day slavery and stop the destruction of the environment. More slaves exist now than ever before in history, and we are destroying the environment at a pace that is unprecedented.

Modern-day slavery and its wide-reaching environmental implications are one of the greatest secrets of the twenty-first century. THE RED MOVEMENT helps people begin their own journey to understanding these issues and how they can impact the world with their buying choices.

Many people believe that slavery ended, and those who are aware of its existence mistakenly believe that it's a problem "out there" when in reality up to half of the items in any home have likely been made by slave labor, forced labor, or child labor.

The labor of slaves can be linked back to hundreds of common products, from certain foods to fashion, coffee to chocolate, electronics, and even large-scale sporting events. Chances are you have used, worn, or bought something made by slave labor today and every day of your life. Shocked? You shouldn't be. This is just the tip of the iceberg.

Slavery is more profitable now than during the transatlantic slave trade, and we are destroying the earth at a pace that cannot be undone. The most important questions are, "Will you join us in stopping this?" And if not, "Then who will, and what will it finally take?"

About the Author

Shadan Kapri (pronounced Shadawn Capri) is an attorney, activist, and author. She was a U.S. Fulbright Scholar on human trafficking, and is the founder of Kapri Law & Consulting, a boutique law firm and consulting practice, located in Washington State.

Kapri Law Firm advocates for women and children by focusing on international human rights, civil rights, and family law. Kapri Consulting promotes the expansion of human rights by offering services to help companies examine and eliminate all forms of forced labor, child labor, and slave labor in their supply chains while promoting workers’ rights and environmental protections.

Her interest in these issues turned into a lifelong mission after volunteering for the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland and Washington, D.C. She went on to earn advanced degrees from Gonzaga University School of Law, University of British Columbia, and Northwestern University in the areas of journalism, international relations, and law.

She began her legal career as an appellate law clerk for the Washington State Court of Appeals, Division III, by assisting in the research, analysis, and development of over a hundred judicial opinions. Afterwards, she became a prosecutor who advocated on behalf of children and victims of serious crimes. In the Criminal Division, she prosecuted cases on the trial court and appellate level ranging from domestic violence to drinking and driving, child abuse and neglect, assault, kidnapping, attempted murder, and first-degree murder. In the Family Law Division, she advocated on behalf of minor children in contempt-of-court, paternity establishment, and modifications of court orders in the best interest of children.

She is also the recipient of the Daily Point of Light Award. The Daily Point of Light was created by former U.S. President George H. W. Bush to nationally recognize individuals and groups who have a deep commitment to public service. Ms. Kapri was born in the Middle East while raised in the United States and fluently speaks Farsi.
