Overview

Immerse yourself in the world of Viking mythology and folklore with this Runic edition of the classic Bellows Edda.

From the land of ice and fire and a time when the Viking heart still beat to the clash of sword and axe come these tales of:

  • Gods and Vikings

  • Valhalla and Yggdrasil

  • Valkyrie and shieldmaiden

  • Love and Romance

  • War and Revolution

  • Magic and Dragons

  • Pirates, Outlaws and Odin's bear shirt warriors: the Berserkers.

Underlying all the poems in this book is a warrior philosophy to help one conquer life's ups and downs that we can all still learn from today. Both these stories and the runes they're translated into are testament to the enduring legacy of the Viking spirit and are amongst the greatest gifts passed down to us. For the first time in history, these gifts have been combined to make The Rune Edda.

Translating using the Elder Futhark, the runes Odin sacrificed himself for, I created a moment of antiquity within this text that allows readers to see the runes and English side-by-side. Although it can be argued that Elder Futhark predates the Viking Era, I chose to use this Futhark because, similarly, our oral history and the gods and goddesses themselves, too, predate the Viking Era. These runes are present on some of the earliest artifacts from that age including those found in Viking ship burials like weapons, jewelry, religious pendants that many of us still wear to this day: Thor's hammer, Mjollnir, and other everyday items like combs, divinatory rune staves, and memorial rune stones to mark the passing of a friend or loved one. At the very roots of this Futhark one can see the history it contains

The Poetic Edda, also known as the Elder Edda, is an essential and timeless piece of ancient history predating the Viking age, through oral history, by at least a millennia. Denoting poems of the Norse Pantheon, Mythology, Legends and Sagas, this collection is understandably one of the most influential pieces of Northern European lore ever produced and has significantly shaped and influenced the literature that came after it. The oldest copy of The Poetic Edda was so valuable that even the Icelandic xtian bishop Brynjólfur Sveinsson gifted it in the form of the Codex Regius to the King of Denmark in 1662, returning it to its original land.

Even to this day, The Poetic Edda is still considered a national treasure by Heathens worldwide. This collection is a must-have for all Heathens, Pagans, collectors and fans of Viking lore out there in the collective heathen nation we call Heathendom. With this book, whatever the season and regardless of where you are, you can take a step back in time and immerse yourself both culturally and spiritually in these myths and legends from an age in history that inspires some of the best qualities in man and the best stories of the Gods and Heroes to date.

Hail Odin!
