My parents divorced. I don't live with my father. I live with my mother and Henry, who likes it when I call him "dad". One summer, my dad visited me secretly. When my mother and Henry found out, they were angry. Then the snow came. I'll never forget that night. Sometimes, people do things—do them out of love—that scrape away their insides, leaving them as nothing but painful containers of salt.
