Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

"Who knew a rummage sale could be so interesting? Or so dangerous?  Crisafulli has given us the perfect cozy—an intriguing mystery, characters to root for, and a setting that is both familiar yet unique. And a bit more—the character complexity and exquisite writing of a literary novel.  A gem of a book.” —Sam Hill, co-author of the bestseller Radical Marketing, and author of the critically acclaimed mysteries Buzz Monkey and Buzz Riff

“As soon as I started reading The Secrets of Ohnita Harbor, I found myself neglecting the tasks on my to-do list: I had to find out what was behind the compelling mysteries at the heart of this story. Patricia Crisafulli has crafted an engrossing and erudite novel which was satisfying on many levels, perhaps especially for its well-drawn characters and finely wrought plot.” —Christine Sneed, author of Little Known Facts and Please Be Advised: A Novel in Memos

“Patricia Crisafulli draws her characters with such empathy and compassion, they pull us into the story and make their concerns our own while she weaves a web of suspense around their world.” —Anthony Flacco, New York Times bestseller and author of the Nightingale Detective Series

“In her latest, The Secrets of Ohnita Harbor, Patricia Crisafulli expertly creates a suspenseful and intriguing story of a small community and its library in upstate New York harboring a valuable Medieval cross in its complicated history. Centered on the evolving narrative of Gabriela and all she uncovers, the mystery draws in the reader with finely drawn characters, surprisingly brilliant twists and unexpected sharp turns highlighting the hidden truths of family, friendship, work, relationships, art, history and murder. I highly recommend this crisply written, satisfying escapade that will keep readers poised to discover what in life is truly valuable.”  —Michele Weldon, award-winning author of several books, including I Closed My EyesEscape Points and her latest, Act Like You're Having A Good Time

Former Reuters reporter Crisafulli's debut novel offers a bit of everything for listeners: mystery, history, romance, and a touch of mysticism. Crisply narrated by Anna Perrin, the audiobook follows Gabriela Domenici as she struggles to save the Ohnita Harbor Library from financial ruin via the discovery of an extremely valuable medieval cross. Found amid boxes destined for a community rummage sale, the cross appears to be tied to the medieval saint Catherine of Siena. The relic immediately draws the attention of those who hope to profit from its sale and believe in its power to heal. The murders of two locals connected to the cross propel Gabriela's search for its origins as she also manages her complicated home life that includes her elderly mother, her 10-year-old son, and money issues, capped by an aging house in dire need of a roof replacement. In fact, at times, it seems that there is a bit too much going on, and that the tale's pacing might have benefitted from judicious editing. Nevertheless, Perrin's rich voice spins the tale with smooth clarity down to its satisfying denouement. VERDICT An engaging series starter, covering all the bases for readers of cozies, romance, Christian fiction, and even church history.—Gail Eubanks
