As the sun began to peek over the horizon to the east, Wade noticed cattle roaming in a nearby field by the farmhouse and wondered if they were fine or also slowly dying. Wade checked the meter and its current reading was only 0.02309 R/hr's. Still a little higher than normal, but also well within the safety range. It was obvious by the fact that the cattle were still on their feet, that the radiation hadn't been as heavy here, as it had been in Jacksonville or Atlanta. This made Wade wonder if they even needed to take cover for the day. And if they didn't, that meant they didn't need to get into a fight with these strangers. But then again, there was the people being held against their will.
Henry, Darrel and Elsie took cover behind the low brick structure. Henry waited until Leon and Barry were in position on the left side and Fernando and Edwardo were in position on the right side. Then Henry, Darrell and Elsie slowly rose into a good kneeling, firing position and each whisper who they were aiming at as they picked a target. They were the best three shots of the Militia who had come with Henry and Henry wanted to make sure that when they started shooting, those they shot at, would not be shooting back. If Gary Barnes had come with them, he would have replaced Elsie as a shooter, but Gary was either already back at the Militia headquarters by now or would be soon. Gary used to be a U.S. Army sniper, before he saw the light and got out.
"On three." Henry whispered to Darrell on his left and Elsie on his right. "One, two, THREE!"
All three people fired as one and three enemy shooters went down hard. But Henry and his people didn't stop there. They had secondary and tertiary targets also. Before the gunmen had even reacted to the first three men going down, three more were lined up in Henry's, Darrel's' and Elsie's sights. They pulled their triggers almost simultaneously again and three more men went down, just as the brains of the remaining gunmen registered that they were under attack. The five remaining men ran out of the shed firing towards the old, capped wells, concrete walls. Three went left, while the other two went right, firing with everything they had.
