About the Author

Dr. Chris Thurber grew up in Maine and attended camp at the age of six. After a bad experience at camp he stopped going. He gave camp another try at the age of twelve, fell in love with it, and has been involved in summer camp ever since. After attending Harvard, Chris received his PhD in clinical child psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles. As an academic psychologist he has spent most of his career researching and finding the best ways to deal with homesickness. Chris feels good to give something back to camp families since summer camp's influence on his personal and professional development has been immeasurable.

Dr. Jon Malinowski grew up in Vermont and started attending camp at the age of seven. He has held positions at camp as a senior staff member, Division Head, Program Director, and board member. After attending Georgetown, Jon received a PhD in behavioral geography from the University of North Carolina where he focused on children's place preferences at overnight camp. Next to his parents, overnight camp has been the single most positive thing in his life.
