Overview

The title and concept of the book "The Sunflower Lion" is very consonant
with the Ukrainians — a peaceful nation that loves its land, family, home,
and also stretches for the sun. But if you come to them with a war, they
turn into lions that fight back and protect their native land.

"The Sunflower Lion" is full of love and support for those who were forced
to leave their homes due to the war. The book contains poems and tales
by authors from Ukraine, Belgium, Ireland and Poland. The book is
bilingual: all works are written in Ukrainian and English. Moreover, "The
Sunflower Lion" has its own audio version with several lullabies and voiced
stories.

"The Sunflower Lion" was first of all created for parents and children who
had to leave their homes because of the war. Now it is especially
important to talk to children, and not hide the truth in order to protect
them — it will not work. This is an illusion. That's why this book was
created in the first place. Reading and discussing poems and fairy tales
together will help parents become closer to their children, not distance
themselves in their feelings from relatives, but learn to speak and
experience loss together through creativity. On the advice of
psychologists, LBP set an age limit of 7+ years.

This book will be also interesting and useful for host families and
volunteers, as well as anyone who helps Ukrainian refugees abroad. The
collection contains psychological recommendations for those who have accepted refugees. In particular, that you should not have any expectations from Ukrainians. Because this is not a standard case — they
fled primarily from danger, and not from a bad life or poverty. Sometimes
you can't even guess what a person's standard of living was, whether they
lost everything, or what their emotional state was.
