About the Author

About The Author
Arthur Conan Doyle (1859-1930) was born in Edinburgh, Scotland.

He studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh and set up a medical practice that was not very successful; while waiting for patients, Conan Doyle began writing stories.

Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes was doubtless his most famous sleuth, but he also created Professor Challenger, another very interesting character.

In addition to his writing, Conan Doyle was active politically and was a great advocate for justice, even to the point of personally investigating closed cases, an action which resulted in several men being exonerated from the crimes they had been convicted of.

After the deaths of several close family members, Doyle became very depressed and spent some time delving into the afterlife and various psychic phenomena.

Richard Milner, an American historian of science, has presented a case that Conan Doyle may have been the perpetrator of the Piltdown Man hoax of 1912, creating the counterfeit hominid fossil that fooled the scientific world for over 40 years.

Conan Doyle’s, The Lost World, contains several encrypted clues regarding his involvement in the hoax.
