About the Author

David Joachim started cooking in his grandmother’s kitchen at age 6. He was raised on what his parents eventually turned into a small organic farm and has been cooking ever since. Throughout high school and college, he cooked in several hotel restaurants and bistros in New Jersey and Florida.

In 1992, he pursued his second love of words and earned a master's degree in English Language and Literature from Binghamton University. He then taught college English for 3 years.

To merge his expertise in cooking and writing, David became a food writer, recipe developer, and cooking editor. He specializes in healthy cooking and has more than 12 years experience in the book, magazine, and web publishing industries as Food Editor at Vegetarian Gourmet magazine and Cooking Editor at Rodale Press, Inc, among other positions. He has written and edited more than 30 cookbooks and health books with total sales of more than 2.5 million copies. He recently collaborated with Patti Labelle on Patti Labelle’s Lite Cuisine, a New York Times bestseller. He also wrote A Man A Can A Plan, with more than 500,000 copies in print and A Man A Can A Grill, also a New York Times bestseller. He co-authored Brilliant Food Tips and Cooking Tricks, which sold more than 200,000 copies and The Healthy Cook, an IACP Award finalist. He edited Steven Raichlen’s Healthy Latin Cooking, which won a James Beard Award and was an IACP Award finalist. His articles and tips have appeared in Cooking Light, Cook’s Illustrated, Cooking Pleasures, Men’s Health, Prevention, Fitness, Mountain Bike, Bicycling, and other national magazines.

David has appeared widely on national television, including “The View” on ABC, “Living It Up With Ali and Jack” on CBS, “Fox and Friends” on Fox, "Home Matters" on the Discovery Channel, "Recipe for Health" on the Television Food Network, QVC, and ABC World News Tonight.
