Helen Beatrix Potter (1866-1943) was an English writer, illustrator, scientist, and conservationist. She is best known for her children's books featuring animals, such as the beloved The Tale of Peter Rabbit, which was written as a gift for the son of her former governess. Its success enabled her to commit to writing and illustrating full time, resulting in more than thirty books.

Johnny Town-Mouse was born in a cupboard. Timmy Willie was born in a garden. Timmy Willie was a little country mouse who went to town by mistake in a hamper. The gardener sent vegetables to town once a week by carrier; he packed them in a bid hamper.
