Overview

"We have here for the first time, a royal burial very little disturbed in spite of the hurried plundering it has suffered at the hands of the ancient tomb-robbers, and within the shrines of the tomb-chamber I believe the Pharaoh lies intact, in all his royal magnificence."
So writes Howard Carter in the Preface to this book. It explains in fascinating and extremely readable narrative the search, discovery and clearance of the objects in the antechamber of the Tomb of Tutankhamen in the Valley of the Kings, designated as KV 62 (KV=King's Valley). This volume contains over 85 photos by Carter's photographer Harry Burton and he conveniently includes a floor plan of Tutankamen's tomb layout. First published in 1923.
