Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

"A solid display of Dershowitz's legal chops." ---Kirkus

Library Journal

In Dershowitz's (www.alandershowitz.com) third Abe Ringel novel—following Just Revenge (1999)—the celebrity Jewish American lawyer is coerced into defending an alleged Palestinian terrorist in order to free his kidnapped daughter. The thriller suffers from a series of some rather contrived situations, but three-time Audie Award winner Dick Hill's adept narration makes it an entertaining listen. Dershowitz frequently appears on TV as friend of Israel or to provide commentary on jurisprudence or human rights; the insights he shares here into the cultures and politics of a possible two-state Israel/Palestine solution are thought-provoking; less intriguing is the famous-jurist-as-superhero premise. Nonetheless, a decent work of adult mystery fiction recommended for fans of Dershowitz and the series. APRIL 2011 - AudioFile

The combination of Alan Dershowitz and Dick Hill creates an enjoyable novel that reads like a fictional autobiography of the famous attorney. The story features lawyer Abe Ringel and his daughter, Emma, also a lawyer, who goes to Israel and finds herself defending an accused terrorist. In short order, Abe also gets involved, and from that moment the story takes off. Hill, whose resonant voice and authoritative delivery are ideal, provides just the right complement for Abe and Emma, allowing the characters’ personalities, and the emotional and ethical conflicts they confront, to move to the forefront. Hill’s style also helps smooth over moments when the dialogue drags. The result is satisfying. D.J.S. © AudioFile 2011, Portland, Maine
