The Two Babylons is an anti-Catholic pamphlet by Scottish theologian Alexander Hislop, published in 1853. It alleges that the Roman Catholic Church is a continuation of Babylon's pagan religion, a result of a millennium-old conspiracy. The pamphlet was expanded in 1858 and published in 1919.

About the Author

Alexander Hislop, born in 1807 in Duns, Berwickshire, was a Free Church of Scotland minister known for his criticisms of the Roman Catholic Church. He was the son of Stephen Hislop, a mason and elder of the Relief Church. His brother, Stephen Hislop, was a missionary to India and a naturalist. Alexander was a parish schoolmaster and editor of the Scottish Guardian newspaper. He joined the Free Church of Scotland in 1843 and was ordained in 1844. He became senior minister in 1864 and died of a paralytic stroke in 1865.
