The Underground Railroad Caper
It was an innocent birthday present, a first edition book that led young William Buckley into his next mystery. His imagination inspired by the mention of a little known connection to the Underground Railroad he inadvertently uncovers a centuries old secret that pits him against a modern day arms dealer. With his two best friends, Roger and Rex, the three teens once again prove a special knack for uncovering dangerous secrets that expose criminals to the agencies of justice only to become the focus of that criminal's vengeance. Unprepared for the violence unleashed against a dear friend young William must risk everything to rescue her, while perpetrating a heinous lie to save her life. He soon discovers that even his best efforts may not be enough, but his faith sees him through the darkest hour of his young life. Yet even then the victory is hollow. Still denied the approval of his father William struggles with his need to be affirmed, striving against all odds to reach impossible heights only to be denied once more. In the midst of that battle he discovers that hatred and bigotry affect everyone and learns through humility that there is no place in the life of a follower of Christ for that kind of ignorance and the actions generated. Through those lessons he brings to an end the enmity between himself and some of the men from the Culver Military Academy, becoming friends with the other young men that were once his enemies. In the end he is faced once more with the realization that the choices he makes in following Christ are of utmost importance, and that he can allow none of himself in the equation for success. Only in humbly following his Savior can he hope to achieve God's will for his life.
