The children who have been selected are about to be launched into outer space to look for new worlds that may support life. Once they lift off and are on their long journey, Ari starts hearing something calling out to him—something that seems to be on board the spacecraft. When he asks those in charge about it, they avoid giving him a straight answer. Ari can't help but suspect they haven't been told the full truth about the tasks that away them on their voyage.
