Overview

Set many years into the future, THE WHEEL series follows a cast or characters who set out to investigate their questions and suspicions surrounding the deity they and many others have been indoctrinated to accept as "god." Further inspection reveals this god to be an egotistical, manipulative, punitive, power-hungry dictator with seemingly no conscience or remorse.

Based on the true-life story of the Cathars, the gospels found at Nag Hammadi, the Book of Enoch, and the End-time eschatologies found in various present-day religions, THE WHEEL pays homage to dystopian fiction authors such as Ray Bradbury and George Orwell.

Written in young adult style, THE WHEEL is a parable about forgiveness and empathy, conviction and courage, and standing up in the face of adversity while being highly critical of narcissistic cultures regardless of their size.

About the Author

Matt Socha is the author of two previous books, both non-fiction. THE WHEEL series is his first work of fiction.

His first book is a socio-cultural commentary examining dysfunctional organizations of various sizes and the various negative effects they can have on their members. His second delves deeper into the personality type typically at the helm of such organizations, that of malignant narcissism.

His impetus for writing both works emerged after working for a number of dysfunctional organizations, all of which resulted in some sort of catastrophe. After noticing the same trends were apparent at the national level, he wrote the first book. After determining the common denominator to be malignant narcissism, he wrote the second.

Since it is both easier and more entertaining to learn by illustration, Farmer decided the next step would be to create a fictional work incorporating the content of his two previous book. Farmer was further inspired to write THE WHEEL series after researching a now-extinct group of Christians known as the Cathars. During this time, he also stumbled across literature pertaining to the End Times as depicted amongst various religious denominations. The stories behind both, he came to realize, would made an excellent backstory to examine deeper truths into human nature, behavior, and psychology. His previous two works of non-fiction heavily influenced the contents of THE WHEEL series.

The "end-times" story line which influenced the plot of THE WHEEL the greatest was that of Islam, particularly the forecast of the Imam Mahdi who, according to some hadiths, will defeat the Dajjal with the assistance of Jesus (or "Isa.") Interestingly, this prophecy has Madhi defeating the Dajjal by intellectual means, which is precisely what occurs in THE WHEEL.

Also influencing Farmer's first trilogy is George Orwell's "1984" and "Animal Farm" along with elements from the Book of Enoch and various texts commonly referred to as the "Gnostic Gospels." Some readers will also notice allusions to the works of Arthur C. Clarke and Stanley Kubrick.

Farmer (a pseudonym) was born and raised in the United States. A former biochemist, Farmer also has extensive experience in management, acting, and design. Having a keen interest in psychology, he is also an independent researcher who has delved into broadening his understanding of various religions (both present and past), secret societies, and various world governments.
