Few animals have been more tragically misunderstood than wolves, but perhaps this aptly titled audiobook will go some way toward correcting this. The Dutchers are the husband-and-wife team who made several acclaimed documentaries about the social lives of wolves beginning in the 1990s, and their narrative is shared by Traber Burns and Kate Mulligan, who assume the voices of Jim and Jamie, respectively. Burns sounds somewhat more detached than Mulligan, who is much warmer, but the technique of alternating passages generally works well. Few people have lived more closely with wolves than the Dutchers, and they have so much to teach us about these deeply intelligent and social animals who have been demonized for centuries despite being the ancestors of our beloved pets.
